Descriptions:
Just a friendly reminder from someone who served in the Army Infantry: The 4th of July commemorates the freedom early European Americans achieved through war and rebellion against England. It’s their celebration, not necessarily yours (if you’re a non-Black/non-White Indigenous person).
I have a deep love for America (known originally by South American Indigenous peoples as AMARUCA), the Constitution (which was inspired originally by Canassatego when he mentored Ben Franklin) and respect for the flag. However, as a person of Navajo and Spanish descent from New Mexico, I must acknowledge that Native Americans in my home state only gained legal voting rights a few decades ago.
So, while you enjoy Independence Day, consider this: “Is this truly my Independence Day?”
Dont be hateful to people of other colors or languages or ideas. Be open to thinking outside the box you’re constantly thinking within.
